Read Time:2 Minute, 27 Second

Inevitably,we often find ourselves handling too many works at a same time. Trying to focus on every work in a spreaded way that it gets hard to keep track of what exactly is suppose to be done. Sometimes, people refer this as being busy but they often fail to realise this doesn’t mean being productive. Which helps in concluding the fact that being busy and being productive are absolutely two words without relating to each other.
I believe we all have been taught the phrase “one thing at a time” which signifies that one should try to focus on one work at a time. Multitasking reduces your efficiency and performance because your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. When you try to do two things at once, your brain lacks the capacity to perform both tasks successfully. Quality supersedes quantity every time.
Well, some might say multitasking is a good thing , let me get to that point too. Yes, multitasking has its own advantages which cannot be denied.
Doing more than one thing at a time one can increase efficiency, productivity, free up more time, and in some cases, save you money.

But every coin has two sides right? Let’s understand why exactly is multitasking needs to be avoided. According to a reserach and several studies done on negative impact of multi tasking ,high multitaskers experience greater problems focusing on important and complicated tasks, memory impairment of new subject matter, difficulty learning new material, and increased stress levels.

1. Impact on learning

According to scientific studies, its been proven that our mind is designed to effectively focus on one or two work at a time, not more than that. When two or more tasks of the same magnitude are juggled, the brain’s normal reaction is to slow down. What occurs is less productivity, instead of more. Distracted people can quickly lose focus on important tasks, often resulting in the loss of creativity and innovation.

2. Rise of stress level

The constant high stress level can cause an individual to become sick much often which can lead to increase in missing days of work , and decrease their overall work productivity.

3. Less focused

The increase in workload can cause decrease in focus . When doing several things at once, your mind is divided between them so it’s only natural that your mistakes will multiply.

4. Affecting memory

The impact of multitasking is actually negative which gets apparent as one grows older. The ability to handle multiple tasks might be easy for you right now but wouldnt be so easy after few years which will lead to more problems and less productivity.

Conclusion

Our brains can’t handle several complex tasks at once. With the rise of technology, which means texting or listening to music while working can actually impair our productivity. No matter what you’re doing, multitasking will or is going to hurt your efficiency someday or the other.
