Eight Policemen Martyred in Kanpur

Eight cops, including a deputy superintendent and three sub inspectors were killed in open firing by assailants in Kanpur late on Thursday night. Four other policemen suffered bullet injuries and are undergoing treatment at a city hospital. The incident took place in Bikaru village in Chaubeypur area when the officers were trying to arrest a criminal, Vikas Dubey after an attempt to murder case was lodged against him. Dubey, a history sheeter, already has 50 cases registered against him. He is also the head of his village and a member of the Zilla Panchayat. The incident took place at his residence. On getting information, an additional police team was rushed to the spot to but the assailants managed to escape. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families. He sought a report from the cops and directed DGP HC Awasthi to initiate strict action against the culprits.
