Since our childhood days, we have always been asked to focus on our body language. Why? What exactly our body language reveals about us? Why is it so important to make sure the non-verbal message that is being communicated through our body languge shouldn’t be offensive or negative?
Before heading to know all about body language, lets know what exactly body language means.
The origin of the word body language (also known as kinesics) in German means movement. According to Cambridge Dictionary, body language is actually a type of non verbal means of communication, the movements or positions of your body that show other people how you are feeling, without using words.

What’s the importance of body language?

Our bodies can change our mind then our behaviour and ultimately the results”.–Amy Cuddy.

A positive body language helps the person to be more assertive and assists in putting his or her opinion forward more easily than the others. According to a research conclusion, 65% of our conversation consists of non-verbal means of communication and 35% is verbal conversation. I think we can now imagine how powerful is the impact of one’s body language in any conversation. The importance of body language is in every field. It actually helps to break the barrier of unfamiliarity and helps to connect better with anyone.

Now that we know , what is body language and its importance then let’s understand what exactly a body language can reveal about a person. In short , you dont need a psychic talent to understand any one’s mind instead focus few things about their body language and you will get to know them better.

1. Hand shake

A firm handshake represents your confidence and interested attitude towards the other person whereas a dry and loose hand shake represents the opposite.

2. Facial expressions

The art of expression portrayed on your face says alot about what are your thoughts and intentions towards the person or situation.

3. Body movement and posture

The way you move and carry yourself communicates a wealth of information to the world. We can easily understand when the person is interested or not with they sit or move or walk.

4. Eye contact

When words cannot say, eye speaks. That’s true, what is really going on in your mind definitely shows up in your eyes. Regardless, how hard you try not to hide your true emotions with words, the eyes says it all.

5. Voice
Voice is also included in body language. What you say isn’t important but hoe you say it matters alot. When you speak, other people “read” your voice in addition to listening to your words. Things they pay attention to include your timing and pace, how loud you speak, your tone and inflection, and sounds that convey understanding, such as “um” and “uh-huh.”

Body language is a very powerful tool. We had body language before we had speech, and apparently, 80% of what you understand in a conversation is read through the body, not the words.”
