Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at ICFAI

ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Deemed University, Hyderabad, organized  Flag hoisting ceremony with “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” as part of 75 Years of Independence celebrations at its campus on 15th August 2022.

The Chief Guest on this occasion Dr Mahender Reddy, Vice Chancellor of the University, addressed the large gathering and said   “ On this occasion, I believe, we all should revisit the eventful journey of the country during these 75 years after Independence. Till the 90’s we followed a model of development in a regulated environment which emphasized the greater role of public sector, import substitution and controls of all types. This period was dubbed as License Raj.”

While citing the Indian economy during 1990s Dr Mahender Reddy stated that   “Mid 1991 saw a new dawn in the economic history of India. The country was faced with a severe economic crisis, triggered largely by an acute balance of payments problem. The response to the crisis was to put in place a set of policies aimed at stabilization and structural reform. While the stabilization policies were aimed at correcting weaknesses that had developed on the fiscal and balance of payment fronts, the structural reforms were meant to remove rigidities that had entered various segments of the Indian economy and to make the system more competitive and efficient. Thus the crisis was turned into an opportunity to effect some fundamental changes in the content and approach to economic policy.”

Dr Mahender Reddy said  “The economy grew at a much faster rate of 6-8 percent during 1990s and later. There was some slow down during and preceding the Covid period. Implementation of concepts such as  Jan Dhan Yojana,  Make in India, Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Swatchha Bharat, GST  have made the country go forward. Other major development in the country is National Education Policy which was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 29, 2020. It focuses on academic and human excellence.

In his speech Dr Mahender Reddy glorified the India’s  IT Policies and said “ The acquisitions of companies abroad have increased substantially so much so that Brand India has come to be respected worldwide and world views India as an IT giant. India’s IT sector is well developed and the digitalization is growing very fast in India. It will give a fillip to the economy and has the scope for reducing leakages and improving productivity.”

On this occasion an Exhibition “Glimpses of Freedom Fighters ” was organized at N J Yasaswy Memorial Library which was opened for students , staff and faculty.  The exhibition is based on the theme Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and  portrayed  unsung heroes of  the Freedom Struggle of India through photographs and books.

Students representing from various states of the country presented the snippets of culture highlighting the respective state traditions and culture.  The patriotic songs program by the students enthralled the audience.  The events highlighted the spirit of the freedom struggle, a tribute to the martyrs and a pledge and resolve to build India. ICFAI Society Chairperson Mrs Sobharani Yasaswy, Prof C S Shylajan, Student Activities coordinator Prof.Madhavi Garikaparthi, faculty, students and staff participated at large.
